A Kid’s Cooking Challenge

kids cookingEmpowering kids is a powerful thing.  I’m helping my kids the best way I can…through writing and through cooking.

They love to cook.

They want to be healthy.

They are into Jamie Oliver and his Food Revolution, as am I.

They are summer-bored.

But nothing much was inspiring them in any meaningful way.

Fast-forward a few weeks.  I went to a writer’s meeting and  heard the story of how Barnes & Noble began.  In a nutshell, one man had a dream, bought a store, found a partner, then sold it to another man with a dream.  From there it has become the “corner” bookstore we love.

It was a good story because it demonstrated how passion can take a person to place he or she never dreamed of.

Sitting around the dinner table, I told my family about the story, about following dreams, taking chances, and somehow the conversation turned to Jamie Oliver and his Food Revolution, about his passion for making a difference.  One thing led to another and before I knew it, they were begging me to start a blog because they decided to challenge themselves to cooking like Jamie Oliver for 100 days…or maybe 6 months.  They still haven’t decided which it’ll be, but either way, they are committed to using these recipes and being part of the Food Revolution.

They’ve been cooking up a storm, and we’ve all been eating healthier as a result.  They’ve blogged about it and their personalities are starting to come out.  They are growing as people before my eyes.  They both have thoughts of becoming chefs.

I started a twitter account for the blog and we’re working on all of it together.  So imagine all of our surprise when Jamie Oliver direct messaged them and told them to contact his assistant!  It was a fabulous day and will keep them cooking for a long time to come.

Follow their progress on TWITTER or at A KID’S COOKING CHALLENGE.  They love feeling the love.
